I have a domain test.com in which

http://www.test.com

points to 202.5.5.5 . I am trying to create the host funk.test.com in which users will be directed to a folder(funkFolder) in the 202.2.2.5 website. Is this done through iis or asp code within the website? How?

I have already set up the dns host funk.test.com to point to 202.2.2.5

Use a host header

That is assuming you are using the server version of your OS

So there is no option in IIS?

Go in IIS and selected your funk.test.com in Website folder and click Action->Properties. Then click on Website Tab, you'll see Advanced Button next to IP Address, so click on that.

Now you see Advanced Multiple Web Site Configuration dialog box, then select "default" with Port 80 and click edit button and put "funk.test.com" in Host Header Name textbox.

How does this map funk.test.com to "202.2.2.5/funkFolder"? I still get directed to the root folder (202.2.2.5/ , the same as

http://www.test.com)when

I type funk.test.com.

I have not been successful. Can you walk me through setting it up in detail?

I have deleted all objects and websites on the iis server.

I have one ip address to use.

Two host names to use:

http://www.test.com

and funk.test.com

When a users types

http://www.test.com

they go to the root folder in the website. when a users types funk.test.com, they are put into a folder in the root directory of

http://www.test.com

here's how you need to do it:

In IIS, create two different sites, one for

http://www.test.com

and one for funk.test.com
Right click on

http://www.test.com

and go into properties.
Under the "Web Site Tab" click on Advanced
This is where you edit the header information that they were talking about earlier.
For

http://www.test.com,

in the header information enter in the following by clicking the add button:
for IP Address: you can either set it to the one you have in there or leave it to All Unassigned, the 2nd option works better of the ip may change at any time down the road.
TCP Port, enter in 80 (default HTTP port)
Host Header name: Enter in what you want the user to type in to the browser to get there, for

http://www.test.com

you would enter in

http://www.test.com

and as a good practice enter in test.com. that way if the user doesnt put the

http://www in

the address the site will still come up.
Press OK after entering in that information, then OK again to get back to the properties window.
Now on to the "Home Directory Tab", For local path, browse to the folder you want the user to see, for example,

http://www.test.com

would point to f:\webs\test and there may be a folder in f:\webs\test\ called funk that you want funk.test.com to come up in, thats ok. Click on ok. and now do the same thing for funk.test.com only instead of

http://www.test.com

in the header field you would put funk.test.com. Below is a chart to help you along:

http://www.test.com

Header Information:

http://www.test.com

test.com
both point to all unassined up (or the IP you choose)
Home Directory:
f:\webs\test

funk.test.com

Header Information:
funk.test.com
points to all unassined up (or the IP you choose)
Home Directory:
f:\webs\test\funk (or some other directory somewhere else.
