I have too many Icons placed on my Desktop. Too many to fit into it. If I try to use more than 1 Virtual Desktop the same icons are copied into every one. What I need to know is if there is a way I can place DIFFERENT icons into every one of the 4 Virtual Desktops.

So far I have managed the "issue" placing different folders on the main desktop and splitting the programs in then, but would like to know if there is something I am missing with VDs.

Thanks for your advice

Windows XP Home, Service Pack 1

Not with the MS PowerToy.

There are many Virtual Desktop Manager programs available, including several that allow you to have different applicatiion icons on each window, and to store these entries.
There are also several things you can do by adding New Toolbars. Essentially you group your icons into Folders, and create a New Toolbar to point at each Folder.

Thanks bcastner for the advice,

I think that once I tried Stardock Virtual Desktop Manager and could not get it do what I need but I will review the other alternatives.

I will get back to you ASAP with feedback.

My feedback:

I have been reviewing some of the programs in the link that bcastner provided me with.

I tried a couple of them, "Cool Desk" and "DesktopPlus" the latest is by far better, but these programs bring more problems that what they solve. Sorry if I sound unfair, but they all seem to be unstable, as least what I have tried.

I will stick to placing the extra folder on the desktop.

Thanks anyway

I think most of the virtual desktop do not have that feature. The more stable commercial one is xdesk and flashdesktops, and the free one is VirtuaWin at sourceforge.

cavie,

I will review those too and will provide feedback as soon as I can.

Thanks
