I cannot view any shared folders on my network, all other PC's can view the folders but mine. My workgroup name is the same, I can see the other PC's on the network but cannot view the shared flders or log into another PC by clicing on them in the workgroup view. How do I set this up?

Thanks

Steve

Start with the basics:

. have you enabled File and Printer sharing?
. have you enabled Netbios over TCP/IP?

I suspect you are OK on these issues. But these have to be right as a starting point.

Now the tough stuff:

. Have you enabled an exception for File and Printer sharing under your firewall? The following KB article discusses all the ports that must be open on your local LAN subnet:
. Watch out for "hidden" firewalls. Several antivirus programs include a "hidden" firewall component; PC-Illan, for example, is notorious for this. Watch out for "hidden" firewalls in VPN client software; CISCO VPN client for example, is notorious for this.

. I still no joy, give Hans-Georg Michna's troubleshooting site a read:
In particular, I want you to see the discussion of the Node type for the problem computer.

Best regards,

I tried to enable the settings you suggested and they were already enabled to no luck there.

The troublehsooting website you provided didnt fix anytyhing either, but then it says I filled the form out incorrectly so who knows.

The error message I get when trying to connect to a workgroup pc is:

\\[ComputerName] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.

All other PC's in the workgroup can connect to this PC but mine so I assume its not the PC i'm trying to connect to.

Open a notepad session, and copy/paste the following

*** start copy/paste below this line
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters]
"NodeType"=dword:00000001
"DhcpNodeType"=-

**** end copy/paste above this line

Save the file as node.reg. Double click to execute and marge with your registry.

Reboot, and test.

If this is a Windows Home Edition, and not Pro Version, do the following:

Download ntrights.exe, and place the unzipped file in c:\windows\system32:
Then do a Start, Run, CMD sequence, and follow with:
net user guest /active:yes
ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest
ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest

Reboot and test.

Thanks heaps that worked a treat!!! I have XP Pro just incase you are wondering.
