I have a task to be able to view, edit, and save an Excel Spreadsheet via the internet. The problem I am having is exactly how to reach the spreadsheet outside of my company's intranet site. I can easily do this inside the intranet by directly refrencing the spreadsheet. However I want to make this available to persons outside of the company. Please help!!!

IceOld8d,

A couple of questions come to mind based on what you noted in the info supplied.

1) Can one assume that your successful tests were done on your intranet, where none of your internal users had to go outside your firewalls?

2) Can one assume that you do have firewalls? If so, where you currently have the Excel file(s) is this server accessible through the firewall or has your network support blocked the access to minimize the attempts of a hacker?

This is a "real" security problem. Also, if the information contained in XLS file is sensitive, you may be leaving it and other doc's available for competition or hackers to exploit.

3) Do you have a server on the "otherside" of the firewall? If so, maybe you could place that Excel file(s) there.

Would suggest you discuss have a discussion with your network support staff and get an understanding of your environment and what they have to offer in the way of options. (VPN, Internet facing web server, ????)

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response.
1)Yes I have completed tests internally and we can access the Excel Spreadsheet.

2)Yes we do have firewalls. The file is placed on our web server but it is blocked to disallow hacking.

3)As far as a server on the outside of the firewall I will have to discuss that with our networking guy.

Again Thank you.
