Video / MOBO chipset coolers

I am going to buy some chipset coolers and on my video card already has a heatsink on it and it looks like its glued on there, and i want to know how to get it off of there to replace it with a new, better one with a fan, so maybe i can overclock it later...i just want to know how to get that off without hurting anyhting,

If there aren't plastic sprung pressure clips holding the heatsink down? (doesn't sound like their is) then the heatsink is usually held onto the GPU with thermal adhesive tape!
A firm pull and twisting motion normally removes the heatsink, it can usually be re-applied as long as you don't let the tap touch anything and loose it's adhesiveness.
Most of these heatsinks can accomodate a small 40mm fan, I have discovered that a fan from an old 486 processor is just the ticket and they come with a piggy back connecting lead so just hook straight up.
You need to find 4 short srews that just project through the fan a few millimeters, you often have to use a small pair of snipe nosed pliers to bent the four prongs at each corner closer together so the screws have something to grab onto (easy honestly)
If this Heath Robinson idea doesn't appeal, you can buy chipset and graphics card cooler sets from Thermal Take (Blue orb/Crystal cooler) etc. Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

i dont plan to put the sink back on, i want to replace it with a chipset cooler, and i also want to know (same question as in my other question) i am going to use silver heat paste stuff and i dont want to bridge connections, on either the MOBO or the video card, (they have those exposed wires leading/connecting to the chip) and is this also the same thing, only a little amount in the middle does the trick, any advise on this would be apreciated

I understand the question but it depends HOW the new heatsink is ACTUALLY attached to the processor, you have to understand that the new GPU cooler may not have clips to hold it in place! so normal Artic silver or equivellant WILL NOT hold the heatsink on to the chip.
If it comes in a kit then it should have the necessary adhesive pads or retaining clips so ignore what I have written below, but you probably won't be able to use you prefered compound (Artic Silver III)
You Can get thermal adhesive GLUE! and in the abscence of any retaining mechanism this glue or special adhesive pads are the prefered option (although I have seen it when people have used a combination of heat transfer paste in the centre of the chip and super glue on the four corners)
Yes! just a small amount of heat transfer paste is needed (a thin layer only) on the graphics chip, enough to fill in the surface inperfections. Martin
P.S Don't be tempted to use normal double sided adhesive tape, it's not the same and melts with the heat. Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.
