I'm trying to create a software demo and used a program called Camtasia for screen and powerpoint presentation captures. The output videos are .avi files in the dimensions of 1280 x 1024 pixels. I've turned to Adobe Premeire Pro 7.0 for my editing needs.

Unfortunately after I import these videos they do not play correctly in Premiere - more specific info in a few sentences. I've created projects using a custom setup with an editing mode of Video For Windows using a frame sixe of 1280 x 1024 pixels. Additionally I'm using the same codec to render the final projects as I did to capture the videos.

Here's what happens: in the monitor window the video plays normally in the monitor on the left (which has the same name as the clip) but on the monitor sequence window (which is on the right) the video appears zoomed in and therefore, cuts out everything but the middle 1/3 of the original clip. Additionally the video is of red text on a blue background. But in the sequence window the text appears black. When I superimpose an additional video at the same time underneath on a seperate track, the superimposed video plays visibly in the areas where the black text appears but NOT under the blue background. When I render the video the final product is the same as what I see in the sequence monitor. How can I get these clips to play normally and correctly in Premiere?

You need to use your motion settings once it's on the timeline and scale it out or in however you prefer. Since you recorded at 1280x1024 to get it 4:3 you will need to zoom(scale) out.

I use camtasia all the time and usually record at 800x600 and zoom it out a bit for a 4:3 aspect for DVD..
