Video duration cut short??

I have downloaded some videos that were originally 10 to 12 minutes in duration, they played fine up until 2 days ago, now when I play them on Windows Media Player or open them in Roxio Media Creator 8 they only show about 1 1/2 minutes of duration. Any help with this would be appreciated.
