I am having a hard time debating whether to try this offer from VIA or not. I am running a Shuttle AK31 v3.1, 512 MB DDR, WinXP Home, LeadTek Geforce3 Ti500 w/64MB DDR.

Not sure what is will fix or make worse.....forums swing both ways. If I do install and things go bad, can I go to a checkpoint in restore to go back to before the install?

My system is crashing for no obvious reason. The only hardware not supported is the NVIDIA driver for the Ti500. Detonator XP sucks, after install PC crashed more frequently and is still not showing up as supported by XP. Rolled back to driver from LeadTek.

I'm starting to wonder if there is some problem between the motherboard and other hardware or XP.

Well, random freezes and crashes are often related to driver issues, so I would go ahead and install it after forcing a checkpoint update. The whole idea of system restore is to allow you to do just this sort of thing, isn't it?

Well, to respond to that post. My experience with XP restore is no good and a waste of system resources. I have already tried to restore back to the QC final checkpoint. XP gave message that it could not restore back to that point. I tried later checkpoints with the same response. Finally had to reinstall XP. I have no confidence in restore and will use only as a last resort to a complete reinstall.
