Vi -Editor turns black suddenly 3

Hi,
When I enter a command wrong or when I search for string and if the search ends editor turns black(not empty screen, but background black text truns white). It is not a major problem but annoying and finding difficult when I seach for text.

What is a shell prompt? I am new to unix

shell prompt is what you should get when you quit vi. probably something like "$" or "bash2.0$" or "%". its where you type "vi" to enter vi.

the shell you are using uses "visual bell" -> change this in the Shell's .*rc File or ask the Admin to do so for system wide rc-files...
