Hello There,

I work for a small agaency and we have an administator who has the mindset that we should wait until the bug fixes come out before he wants to purchase VFP 7.0. Never mind that the Service packs are free- he insists on waiting until the updates are out. Obviously a network guy- not a developer.

Now you know and I know that service packs are a fact of life- Can anyone tell me if a Service Pack is available for 7.0 or when one might be? I need a bone for this guy before he'll authorize the purchase.

Thanks for your time. The 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

Well I allway knew MicroSoft would try something new, But to Release a Service Pack BEFORE they release a version. Never thought of that one.

Unfortunatly I agree with the OTHER guy when it comes to MicroSoft. I'll purchase a Version x.0 and use it for development, but I will never do it again with any MicroSoft product. As a standing rule in my company, We never purchase a MicroSoft version x.0 untill it has been on the market for a year with no service packs released.

Sorry if that upsets you but my customers are to important to me to depend on MicroSoft to produce a product the first time out that will not damage something. David W. Grewe

Hello There,

Service packs usually follows right behind major releases as MicroSoft continues fixing bugs and the like right up to and "THROUGH" distribution- kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy. ( I'd give it 90 - 120 days tops for the "first of many SPs".)

You're attitude is a little cocky but your entitled to your own opinions- but how come you don't know know that they apparently have released VFP 7.0? Microsoft says its available now. Check:

Thanks My Friend The 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

Technically, they havent released a Service Pack. However, there is a hotfix available at You may be able to convince the administrator that it qualifies as the first service pack for this purpose.

Also bare in mind, because VFP is no longer in the Studio suite, the Fox team is free to distribute Service Packs when they feel the need. IOW, expect SP1 for VFP7 to be released sooner than it was for VFP6.

I also concur with Dave and choose not to begin using a MS product for production until the first SP is released. IIRC, I didnt make the transition from VFP5 to VFP6 until SP2 or SP3. Jon Hawkins

We only write "in-house" DP Applications. No clients outside the agency. I'll take your advice and bite the bullet for now though. Having used VB for a lot of apps, I can't wait for the VFP 7.0 enhancements to the development platform. Thanks for the input gentlemen.
