A spread sheet was emailed as an attachment to a 2k machine. If I try to open the document from the email, nothing happens. I can save the document but cannot open it through the My Documents shortcut. However, if I open Excel and then the document I can then open the spreadsheet with no problem. Despite the fact that I am able to view the spreadsheet through Excel, I am still not able to open it through MY Docs, or directly from the email. I am stumped with this one.

Your file association for .xls is flawed. Look up the file association and look up the command line for the OPEN action.

If you are not using DDE it should look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1" joegz
"Sometimes you just need to find out what it's not first to figure out what it is."

Thanks for your suggestions!

I ended up turning off DDE completely and the spreadsheet came up immediately.

One question Dreamboat. What purpose does the "Ignore other applications" checkbox serve? I am more than a little confused after having played with that feature for a little while!
