My network is incredibly slow. When someone opens My Computer, it takes it a good minute to load. This is on any machine in the network. We do have about 5-6 mapped drives. Opening Outlook is slow. Opening anything is slow. From any machine in the network, I am able to ping the core switch in 1ms. The hard drive in my PDC failed, so now I just have the BDC (which I promoted to the PDC) until I build another machine to be the PDC. The network was slow before the PDC crashed, but it is at a crawl now. Microsoft says the slowness may be caused by the machines, switches, routers having to learn a new route now. Any ideas where to look now?

Do you know if all you name resolution is working OK, i.e. WINS or DNS as this can cause the symptoms you are describing.

I think I have narrowed it down to that. I need to start looking at each machine and make sure the WINS, DNS and LMHOSTS files are all accurate.

That Network Monitor also works wonders for packet captures.

In my experience, DNS numbers pointed in the wrong direction(like if you had your PC's DNS numbers mapped to your PDC) will cause a computer to boot up slow.
