Setup new Win2K server in former NT4, small network(5 clients,win2kpro) environment. Win2K server hosts local domain, but NT4 server is still part of network and has now joined the new domain. Client access to files on old NT4 server is painfully slow. How to troubleshoot??

What OS are your clients running which trying to access the NT4 server. If they are Win2k Pro or above. The problem may be resolving ip of the NT4 server. Win2k and above use DNS to resolve names by default. NT4 on the other hand doesnt, and specifically needs to be set in ip properties. To get around this, either add a host record for the NT4 server into your DNS server, or install WINS on the Win2k server and configure either your individual clients and the NT4 server to use the WINS or add WINS into your DHCP scope options. You can also change the node type. The node type specifies the order which is used to resolve names to ip's. order host/NetBIOS names are resolved. i.e cache,WINS,DNS,lmhosts, hosts, broadcasts

Did you check the DNS settings on the workstations? They shoukd be pointing to your WIN2K DOMAIN CONTROLER. A+, MCP, CCNA
