Hello All,

We recently installed a new version of business objects (5.1.2). Some users however are still using 4.1.3. These users have recently gotten access to BO 5.1 and are experiencing problems with some reports.
When opened (with 5.1) and refreshed the query generates the message: "this query will create a cartesian product..." after continuing the refresh, the report contains data that is far from correct.
When using the same query in version 4.1, no "cartesian" message and data is correct. Is this a known error, or something that has been patched allready in later versions?

I would appreciate it if someone would answer to this question, thanks

Harry

Hello Harry,

First thing to check is whether the SQL generated by the 5.1.2 version is the same as the one from 4.1.3 (SQL button in query panel). If you use the same universe version, the SQL should be exactly the same. Specifically check the SQL part where the joins are specified. Cartesian products are usually caused by selection from tables not correctly joined. T. Blom

All,

First of all, yes the universe is the same. Secondly I checked the SQL and it turns out that the automatically generated SQL is different in the two versions. One join is not generated in version 5.1, thus causing the Cartesian result... Are there any people outthere who have experienced similar problems when upgrading to other BO-versions???

Rgds,

Harry

Hallo Harry,

I did never experience the update from the 4 version to the 5 version, because of switching to another employer. Perhaps you can increase your reach by posting this to another forum:

which has a very dense population of experts as well.

By the look of your name, you're possibly a fellow country-man? Did you take this peculiar problem up with our friends in Bilthoven? T. Blom

You are sure the join taken in version 4 is still there in version 5, but not used? Does checking universe integrety show an error? I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
