Hi,

I'm new to veritas backup and have some quick questions.

I had installed Veritas Backup exec 9.0 on windows 2000
server(installation I). I had configured some backup
schedules and had taken some backups on to tapes using
this Installation I.

Now after few months i had uninstalled the Veritas backup
exe (installation I).

Now if i reinstall the Veritas Backup exec on a different
server or on a same server (installation II ).

Lets say if something happens tomorrow and i wanted to
recover some files using the backup tapes (backed up with
Installation I).

1) Can i put these backup tapes on to the new Veritas
Backup (installation II) and recover files ?

Or does it need the Installation I ?

2) Does Veritas has some kind of catalog or database where
it stores all the backup related stuff ?

---Thanks
Cathy

Backup Exec stores the catalog information in c:\program files\veritas\backup exec\nt\catalogs.If you uninstall BE and choose not to remove all file it will leave the information intact. When you goto re-install BE the restore information will be there.

Thanks.

1) So if i delete those catalogs , there is no way i can
recover those backup tapes ?

2) How about if i reinstall the veritas backup exec on to
another system and can i recover the backup tapes(backup
taken with Installation I ) ?

You can recover, you would have to inventory and catalog all tapes.
You can move BE to another server, just stop the services on each end and copy the catalog folder to the same location.
