I have been refereing to my maunal about how to properly set up a head cleaning back in Veritas backup exec. There does not seem to be any information listed.

I know normally you insert the head cleaner tape into the drive, it cycles for 30 and ejects the tape. Head is clean. But there is nothing in the job log activity that states that a head cleaning job was run.

Is there an easy solution to set this task up so that it posts a job log?

Hi, I've the same problem and can't tell if the support team are using the cleaning tape at the appropriate time.

Did you ever find out how to set-up this feature within backup exec.

Best regards
IG

If you have a single tape drive, you have to manually put in the cleaning tape, it will run automatically, then you need to right click on the drive, select Properties, then go to the cleaning tab and manually reset the stats.

If you have an autoloader, you need to load a cleaning tape into one of the slots, leave it there, and BE will clean the drive(s) when needed and reset the cleaning stats automatically.

As for the autoloader, you must specify a slot that contains the cleaning tape as the cleaning slot. Keep the cleaning tape in that slot and a job can be scheduled. With a scheduled job, you can request a job log be generated at each run.
