I am having a hard time finding correct information on my searches so I thought I'd just ask the experts. Is it possible to backup a server to file and have the file grabbed by another machine during a nightly backup ? I have another server I would like to backup as part of our daily backups, can this be done ?

Thanks in advance.

You can create a backup to disk folder which will creat bkf files of the backup. You then could backup that folder that contains the backup file. Just remember a restore would require you to restore the files, catalog the file, then restore the server. Backup Exec 9.0 has a duplicate job which you can run a backup to disk first then duplicate the data to tape.

Yes you can do this. Let me break down our situation for you. Server A is backed up entirely everynite. Server B needs to backup a portion of itself and copy it over to Server A where it can be backed up. Create a backup job through Windows and create the .bkf as the previous post suggested. Then create a .bat file with the following

copy /Y C:\mybackup.bkf \\servername\share

Schedule this with the Windows scheduler. The /Y switch forces the file to be overwritten. No need to have several copies if it's backed up on tape every nite. Hope this helps.
