Veritas 8.0 remote agent serial number

Does veritas 8.0 require a seperate serial number to install agent accelerator for remote backups when the Server version is installed on the backup server.

I can do the install without a serial number and I can see the agent on the remote server, but it is greyed out on the backup server.

Does the 8.5 upgrade work the same way if the agent needs a serial number?
