Problem is that when calls go unanswered they cover to Unified Messenger. Port 1 (7901) picks up just fine, while this line is busy if another call comes in the phone just rings and rings. Obviously the vector is not working properly. Following is information on the PBX and vector. I am new to phone programming and could use your assistance with solving this problem.

Have Definity G3V7i.01.0.343.7 and Unified Messenger v5 - patch 3 Windows 2000.

display events shows following:
Event Type: 50
Event Description: Route to step failed
Event Data 1: 150/2
Event Data 2: 30

Have checked that all extensions ring and are set up according to the UM instructions. What else should I check? Thanks.

Not completely sure what you are trying to accomplish. In the vector above, since all the coverage points are set to n, the vector will send the call to the next vector step if it canot terminate the call to the step it is in. For example, if it encounters a busy. this will trigger an entry in the event log. It looks to me like you are attempting to use a vector as a hunt group. You would be better off putting all those locals in a ddc hunt group and sending the call to the acces code of that hunt group. The switch seems to have basic acd, so you could also set up the hunt as ACD and queue to it in the vector as well.

For a voicmail, however, you woudl normally simply put the ports as members of a standard non-acd hunt group with queueing. Set the q-length to at least the same as the number of ports. Set the group type as ucd-mia to help distribute trafic among the ports evenly.

This was all set up a couple of years ago by a company that supports Avaya Unified Messenger.

The problem is that when one call goes unanswered, it covers to Unified Messenger correctly. However, if a second call attempts to cover to UM while the first one is still being heard the caller hears the phone continuously ringing, until the first port goes to idle, then it picks up.

So port 1 (7901) picks up just fine, while this line is busy if another call comes in the phone just rings and rings. I assumed that this meant that the vector is not working properly. Thanks.

They are analog ports - Station 7901 through 7916 are set as Type: 2500.
The PBXLink Digital port extension 7930 is set as Type: 8434D.

FYI:

Just found this out

if you program the set type to be 7434ND you don't have to put the extension #'s in the name field anymore, you must enabled the 7434ND in the "change sys features" on page 5

we've done this a few times, have yet to have problems...
