Hi

I have an application that I designed on a machine running windows 98 / NT. I am trying to open the project on a windows 2000 machine and am experiencing some problems. I am opening the app from a CD. When I look at the files the forms with .frx as the extension are showing up as Visual FoxPro Reports. When I try to open the .vbp file I receive the error " "Retained" is an invlaid key. The file (file path) can not be loaded". Is there an issue opening apps in 2000? I'm not even trying to run anything just open teh project file.

Thanks,
Corinne

Does the Win2K machine have VB6? '"Retained" is an invalid key' usually shows up when you open a project file that was developed in VB6 and later opened with VB5...

Mark,

Thanks for responding. Yes, VB6 is installed on my machine.

I've opened projects from NT, 2K, & XP without any problems. But you can open the .vbp file with a text editor (like notepad.exe) and manually remove the "Retained" key, save the file and try to open the file again in VB...

Mark,

After looking into my machine further I found that also installed is VB5. When I tried going through Explorer to open the .vbp file I received that error, I'm assuming I received it because it wasn't sure which version to open the .vbp file in. When I open VB6 and open my project from the file\open project then everything opens just fine. Thanks for your assistance.

Another question ............. why did my forms have the type listed as visual FoxPro Reports? Does this have something to do with having both versions on my machine? I am having problems now when trying to save the project a message appears that says "This file exists with read only attributes. Please use a different file name." At the top of the form reads ...(frmPhoneExt(code)(Read Only). Does thids have something to do with these forms coming in as Visual FoxPro Reports rather than forms??? How do I get around this?

Thanks,
Corinne

not sure about the foxpro bit etc... but you mentioned u are running of the CD... the files will be read only (a little lock will appear on the form) also if u have copied from the CD to the HDD make sure they are not read only... (again a small blue lock in the project explorer)

good luck!

ADoozer,

Thanks, for responding. Yes, they all have a small blue lock on them. How do I get rid of it?

Corinne

right click on the files goto properties and remove the read only attribute!! unless its on the cd in which case they will remain read only (nature of CDs)

good luck!!
