vb.net on linux?

Help!
I created a site in visual studio 2005 and now am having a horrible time trying to get my hosting to do what i need. Their only suggestion is to move to a linux box instead of a windows. Will this work if it is vb.net?

Perhaps you can give some more background on why your hosting team suggested linux would solve the issue? It's not immediately intuitive that an M$/vb/.net solution would be "better" on linux. Might be true.

Can we have more details please?

Your hoster is running Linux, but you developped in vb.net?

Well - either it was an error to choose a linux hoster for a vb.net application, or it was an error to develop a vb.net solution for a linux system.

Maybe you find a hoster who supports vb.net.
Or you port your code to java.
Getting away from vb.net seems to be a good idea anyway.

No, The hosting company runs both. I developed in vb.net because that is what I know. I am trying to ad a member subscription section to the site and the credit card company is the one that is saying I should switch to linux to make it easier. I just didnt think I could put vb.net on a linux server.

It can be done, but I've never tried it.

To get the .NET framework running under Linux you need to install Mono which can be downloaded from here:

http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page

This is the only option you have, otherwise you are just going to have to use Windows.
