Hi all, I all of a sudden am having trouble with VB 6.0 running on XP Professional. Almost every time I try and save the form/project/class thed arned thing crashes. Has anyone ever runinto this or does anyone have any idea on why this would happen? No new instals or new hardware, drivers, etc.

Thanks for any help that you can give me,

You might want to check your permissions. Do you have rights to modify files?

same with DJTN . . . it's not just XP, even on Windows2000 where every user has different permissions. If you are not an administrator or even a Power User, you will experience VB crash . . .

Please pardon the grammar.
Not good in english.

I created the project from scratch and saved it, so I don't think it is a permissions thing. I'm developing for a third party on my laptop and I am the only one using this laptop and I am logging in as Administrator. So I don't think it is a permissions thing. I found some knowledge base articles (250343, 192731) but they refer to problems during the install. My install went fine, it's when I try to view a form in VB, say if I wanted to add a textbox, is when VB just shuts down. Or even if I try and save a vbp or frm.

Thanks for your help, any other suggestions?

I've been using VB6 SP5 on XP Pro for 18 months without any problems (touch wood!). Maybe one or more project files are corrupted. Does the same problem occur in new or other existing projects?

Perhaps you might try re-applying Visual Studio 6.0 SP5?

also if you dont have SP1 for XP you should apply that as well.

I am running XP Pro with SP1, but I do not have SP5 installed. I'm downloading from Microsoft as I type so I hope that will clear up this issue. The problem occurs with existing projects as well as stuff I create as new. I started up in diagnostic mode and I still had the same trouble of VB telling me that "Visual Basic has encountered an error and will shut down.......etc." At the bottom is the all too familiar Debug, Send and Don't Send buttons. Thanks for all of your help the past couple of days, you have all been great!!! I'll update this post later today and let you all know if SP5 cleared up my problem.

Thanks,
