VAL Board

I'm running CM6.1 and I just got a VAL board. I put the IP in the node-name table and added the ip-interface. I've seen older posts about setting up a data module. Is that still required? If so it says to set the type to be 'ethernet'. That doesn't exist as a choice. Announcement is a choice. Anyone have the exact steps for this? I have one in another system and don't have a data module configured so not sure if it's required or what it's actually used for.

Also, on the ip-interface page there's a field for 'ethernet link'. What goes in there?

cm5 and higher software adds datamods in the background and Ethernet datamods can no longer be added with admin.

In cm5.2 and higher the tn2501 no longer needs a programmed ethernet data-module

Need node-name + ipaddress for val ip-interface node-name and val ip-interface
gateway

Ethernet connections are still necessary but not user programmable via the
administer data-module form. Upgrades to cm5.2 and higher convert the old
data-module, node-names, gateway, communication-links to the new format.
These ethernet connections are for .wav file backup and restore, and for the
file transfers for upgrading / downgrading firmware.

Going forward, the user administration is on the ip-interface form, and
node-names form. You will no longer use an extension assigned to an ethernet
data-module.
