I am trying to upload an announcement onto a Val Board but keep getting the following error:
Failed to copy Greeting.wav from VAL board Main:03B02. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: validateAudioFileType: , because its compression code is '1', which is not a-Law (6) or Mu-Law (7).
Is this something to do with the type of file? And how can I get around this?

Best way round that i found, was to record the Annc. via a feature access code from a phone to the VAL board Annc. number directly. At least that way it's in the right format to begin with. Other wise you going to spend a lot time as i did trying to convert the file to a-law, mu-law, and tried all types of software trying to convert it. Once done you can change the Annc. content in the future and reload it without problems.

I think the format of the file is wrong. If you open the file in windows sound recorder and save it as an other file you get the option to change the format. What the format should be can be found in the VAL manager help file.

Good luck!!

What 'lever' said - plus check your Rt or rate on the announcement card istself, <disp ann> I beleive the VAL uses 64 bit only. The file type is .wav and by recording it through your FAC (on a MultiVantage it is page 1 under Announcement access code. Usually it is #<number> on your station you would hit #<number><announcement extension> then 1 to record, 2 to listen and 3 to delete) it will save it as such. When finished you will have to dial the extension of the announcement in question directly to activate it. If you hear a busy signal just wait a minute and try again, this means the system has not synched with the announcement just yet. Make sure you do a back-up as soon as it is successfull.

Thanks for your help guys. I will try these and let you know.

The whole point is to be able to use wav files, not rerecord via the phone. As Brandaris says, open the file in Windows sound recorder (under accessories, then entertainment). See what type of format it comes up as (just for curiosity sake). Resave the file as u-Law 8.000 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono. It should then upload fine.
