We have several customers that have TN2501 Val Announce Boards, they do not use the Val Manager to manage the announcements, but they record the messages by dialing the feature access code and recording the message through the handset. The problem is that the recordings randomly disappear, some messages are never lost, and some can be accessed 3 or 4 times before they disappear. We have ended up removing the TN2501's and replacing them with TN750's. The TN2501 has the latest firmware, and this problem has occurred from R9 to MV1.1.

This is a common problem. Here is a copy of a sheet we give installers when installing new announcement boards. Follow it & you should not have this problem. (By the way, I don't think the save announcements command works with TN2501 boards)
Notes about Announcement boards:
It is possible to corrupt a card by not erasing an announcement before re-recording it.
TN 2501 Cards: With this card you must do the following with a new installation: (Assuming the card is in slot 01A03)
Step 1: busy Board 01A03 Step 2: erase announcements 01A03 Step 3: Release board 01A03
Also note that changing the name of an announcement, erases it. This was not the case with the TN 750.
TN 750C Cards & TN 2501 Cards: Dial feature Access Code (usually *66) followed by the announcement local. (Phone must have console permission in its COS). Dial tone is heard. Press "1 " to record, "3" to delete . To listen to your announcement, simply dial the local.
Recording Announcements (both Card Vintages):
1. Dial Feature Access Code (usually *66)
2. Enter the announcement extension
3. Press 1 to record
4. When finished recording press # (this is the most important part if you do not press # the announcement will not save properly nor will you be able to delete it.)
5. With the TN 2501 only, once you press #, before hanging up you can press 2 to listen or 3 to delete.
***You must wait 15 seconds before recording another announcement****
You can go back in once you have recorded the announcement and delete it same procedure applies.

With the TN 2501, It is very important when programming the announcements to turn Queue to y otherwise the announcements will not save properly.
It actually can take up to 10 minutes for an new announcement to be writen to memory
"You should use the "Save Announcements" command when all the announcements have been recorded. This takes around 30 minutes and should not be done if the switch has anything other than minimal traffic on it. A failure to save announcements is often caused by a faulty system port (G3R only). Unfortunately, the same system port will be chosen every time the ""save announcements" command is executed, causing the command to fail reliably. To find the faulty system port, busy a system port and retry the "save announcements"" command. When the command finally works, you've found the faulty system port. I'm not sure, but in a CMC or SI machine System ports are replaced by Netcons.

"The reason Avaya request announcements are to be deleted before re-recorded, is that if you have an announcement that is 10 seconds long and you re-record this announcement and it only lasts for 8 seconds you will have 2 seconds left over and this is stored in an announcement number 0. If you see this on any announcement board the only way to remove this is by erasing the board.
