V9.1 reading incorrect drive capacity

Hello,

I have a HP DLT40 tape drive, using DLT40 tapes.
The tapes have been used before on the same server and drive but using Arcserve 2000 instead.

I uninstalled Arcserve and installed Veritas 9.1, the device management section of Vertias reports the total capacity of the tape - 19.1GB

32K Buffer Size
32K Block size

With the DLT40 tape drive compression you can get around 83GB data onto these tapes, but veritas is stopping the backup job at 34GB.

Veritas will not allow me to format these tapes, the option is not available for me. Does anyone know how to enable this option or what is preventing it from being available. I can do a long erase but it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance.

hi

First of all , you must understand that if your drive can go up to 83 gig compress, you must make sure that the data you are putting on the tape can be compressed. I will suugest you to let the hardware control the compression instead of BE91 (software compression.) Also make sure that Be91 recognize your tape as a DLT40 if not, it could see it as something else!. there is some option to configure your drive and cartridge options!

Le monde c'est de la marde!

HP DLT40 drive - ie. DLT4000, can only do 20gb native, 40 gb compressed, so gettign 34gb on the tape is getting pretty good compression.
