v. 02 - Shortcut that invokes Access.exe and system.mdw

I created a shortcut that is supposed to open Access, then open the front end of the database and then the system.mdw. For some reason, it will not start the system.mdw file. I've done this a hundred times and this is the first time it doesn't ask me for a username/password. Here's what it looks like.

Target: "Access location" "front-end db location" /wrkgrp "system.mdw location"

Please advise, thank you!

Are you certain that the 'Admin' user has had its password set to something other than 'blank' ?


. .. because if not - you get exactly what you describe. The Target structure is fine and you get in as the Admin user with no password.

It doesn't even prompt me for a username...should I set the database password and then try it? Which I attempted but it said it has to be exclusive and for some odd reason I can't get into the database exclusive...and it's not because of other users either. The option isn't available like it should be when you open Access first and then the database.

Try something along these lines...

"...\MSACCESS.EXE" "...\Database.mdb" /wrkgrp "...\System.mdw" /user UserNameHere /pwd PasswordHere

If the Admin user does not have a password then it will NOT show to log in prompt screen at all.

I've used this on general access databases.
You give the Admin user the permissions that you want general users to have - and they can log in without having to enter any password at all.

For the 'higher level' users - they have users names and passwords and you use the Startup script so ably defined by Ed2020 in the post above. Leave out the /pwd Pass.. .. if you want the users to enter their own password.
