Users accessing .xls files, running Excel 2000, on Ms 2000 worstation causes Netware utilization to shoot up to 100%
have NW6 sp3. So far I've seen no tids that address this problem.
What version of client are you running? I recall some issues with Novell client 4.83 and Excel - will try to find a reference.
Have you looked at what component is spiking the utilization? Are there a lot of network traffic/requests being issued by the user? Does the spike continue or is it just initially when opening the workbook?
Some excel spreadsheets can become very large, especially if the user maintains them repeatedly over a long period of time. I had a cust whose 1-page daily report was over 10 meg on disk due to repeated deletions and additions (deletes don't seem to go away, they just hide).
The user is running 4.83 sp1 on the worktation The files are less that 50 kb. no Macros or complex formulas. No virus or worms. no crupptions. So far I have NW6 sp3 on the server.
Make sure you have "set client file caching enabled=off" and "level 2 oplocks enabled=off" on the servers and reboot them if you have to make a change. You can put these statements in the autoexec.ncf or make the change in Monitor.
I have set "set client file caching enabled=off" i already had "level 2 oplocks enabled=off" . If teh problem pops up again I'll try 4.83 sp2 on the client.

Don't forget to restart the server since that change will not take effect until you do. Also, I am trying client 4.9 on several Win2k machines with good success. It seemed to clear up a few minor issues.
