utility to catalog system

Can anyone recommend any simple utilities that will allow me to run a simple exe that will give me basic system information, cpu speed, ram, motherboard, drives, etc... I dont want to deal with some product that has to be installed on a machine, just something simple that I can stick in a floppy drive and catalog as much info about the system as possible...

in the old days I used a little utility called syscheck or something like that, but I cant find anything similar for windows systems...

msinfo32 which comes standard with XP should do the trick.

Start
run
"msinfo32" in text box
OK

On Win XP you can save the information to a System Information file.
Or you can export it to a .txt file. From there you could import the data into a spreadsheet or database.

On W2K

the Msinfo32.exe tool is located in the System_drive :\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo folder. There is no path to this folder by default, so you must start Msinfo32.exe by using the full path.

MSinfo32 also exists somewhere on Win9x or ME not sure where .

You can't run msinfo32 from a floppy since it has a GUI. But see MS's

I have been using a little utility called Syschk for some years. It is a tiny DOS based utility, very handy to keep on a floppy along with other tools. It gives a complete hardware profile in a very simple format.
