Hi,
Using frename on my Windows 2003 server is extremely slow. To rename 1000 files takes about 1.5 minutes. On another Windows 2003 server a colleague has it takes 7 seconds. Has anyone got any ideas.

Thanks

Hellsing,

I presume:

a) you have attempted the rename activity multiple times (to rule out a "file in use" blocking slowdown).

b) there are also 1000 files to rename on the faster server.

Hellsing,

Unfortunately, without our being able to check logical components within your operational envrionment, we cannot do much problem isolation without your "footwork". The two questions above (which you have checked) were the most obvious; now we must look deeper.

Amongst the things I would check next are:

1) "In-flight" locks that competing sessions may have on objects you are renaming.

2) Operational instance-configuration (parameters) which differ significantly between the instances, including ARCHIVELOG mode.

3) Differences in concurrent-session levels between the two instances.

4) Any other instance differences that you are aware of which we are not aware.

Looking forward to hearing your findings.
