I am using a commercially avaliable Lab Management system that is written in FPW2.6. I have trouble with corruption occuring in my WIP file in the memo fields (the .FPT). I have yet to find anything that will correct the damage, so I go thru it record by record and fix the memo fields in Fox Pro.

I would like to be able to use the brow function to only look at records that have data in the various memo fields but am unable to figure out any way to do that

Does anyone have any ideas? It would save lots of time.

Use the FOR clause:

BROWSE FOR !EMPTY(MemoFld)

LOCATE FOR !EMPTY(MemoFld)
BROWSE LAST

BROWSE FOR 'DAVE' $ MemoFld &&... "DAVE" is contained somewhere in the memo field.

And so on.

DEBWEST,
As Wayne mentioned, the DSalvage tool is availbale. I have used it extensively, and rate it a "Must have" for FoxPro 2.x. It works equally well on FPD or FPW DBF's, as they are the same format. I have had many databases saved by DSalvage, it's a good product, and worth looking into if you are having these kinds of troubles.
It's actually a DOS based application, but is fairly easy to learn, and use.

Best Regards,
Scott

Please let me know if this has helped [hammer]

Years ago when I was a member of the Fox Forum on CI$, I came across a little exe called DBRX in one of the libraries. If I recall correctly it was available as shareware. It did nothing to correct memo fields, but it would repair a corrupt dbf. I can't tell you how many times this program saved me.

The syntax was DBRX mydbf

I just did a search on Google and found it at

I highly reccomend it for your toolbox. You'll never know when you'll need it.

Also some corrupted dbf files (26ver) can be corrected by opening them in VFP (vers5 and greater I know for sure, not so sure about vfp30.)

Just running my fingers...[g]

Hello-

Thanks to all that responded to my appeal for help.

To Dave S. - Thanks for how to find not empty memo fields or ones with specific stuff in them. Neither one of my FoxPro books mentions how to do that! Works like a charm

To Wayne - I ordered a copy of dSalvage Thanks for the suggestion. It should be here tomorrow.

To Scott - Thanks for the explaination of the merits of dSalvage. It soulds like I should have had a copy of that long age. I did order it and it will be here tomorrow.
I think it will really help me!

To XBaseDude - I got the database utility program. It looks like it will help me in other situations. Thank you.

I am a one man (woman) IT department. My former job was in an IT department of about 200. I miss the opportunity to get with others to fuqure out problems. Now, it is great to know that I am not out here alone. There are still folks out there using good ol' FPW2.6 I'll let you know how it all turns out as soon as I get dSalvage.

Thank you very much.

Deb West
