I am using 2420's with a IP Office V7 can I plug in a Nortel T7316e into an available port and will it boot up by itself or do I need to program the port to allow me to use that set?

Neither, you need a special card/module for those phones :)

"No problem monkey socks

I found some info on line. It looks like the DS16A or DS30A expansion module using an RJ21X. Do I require a license or can I just plug it into the expansion port on the back.

Do the handset have any trouble working with the IP Office software?

As long as the system is on 7.0 or higher you can use the DS16A or DS30A modules, unless it was upgraded to 7.0 using a small system upgrade license.

The handsets work with IPO, but there will be some differences in how they operate versus a native Avaya handset.

Thank you. Yes I read up on the difference and they should not be a big issue here. How do I tell if it has been upgraded using the small system upgrade if so can I upgrade it anyway?

Or use a TCM8 card if you have enough slots in the contol unit.(v2 control unit) you will be able to tell in the IP Office Manager under LIC. it will show which upgrade LIC is present.

Can I use all 4 slots on the IP Office with TCM 8's that will give me 32 which is the number of available ports for the DN's with the MICS 0x32. They want to use all Nortel T7316es and non of the Avaya sets.

I did read that there was problems with the sets retaining memory but that there was a solution to the problem and it was with the Manager itself.

Yes you can use up to 4 TCM8 cards.
But to be very honest, they will have less functionality then with the 2420 phones!
Warn them before you do it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

They do not want to replace all of that inventory and they really only use the handsets for paging, parking, voice mail, answer, hold and transfer. I have tried to get them interested in other features but they have no interest.
They are on their PC's more than the phones. Lots of emails from other countries etc.. They do a lot of Web based stuff and not phone based.

hey may like the voice mail to email which I believe they can have with IP Office that they do not have with MICS. They do not have a server so can they still have their voice mails sent to their personal emails without a server and Outlook?

No you need a email service.
