Anyone know if there is a workaround for the disabling of the Shared Documents folder while your computer is a member of a domain? I have a laptop I use for both work and home, with two separate user accounts; one on the domain (for work) and one local to the computer (for home). I would really like to have an easy to access area to have a common area to put files that are readily accessible from both accounts. Thanks in advance for your input.

Make a new folder on the C drive and put stuff there?

Is that not what you want? It sounds like too easy of an answer.

None of that info would get backed up on the server, but you could set up offline files on that folder if you wanted... I wouldnt do any of this myself because having business info on a laptop is a horrible idea, but in theory it'd work.

Thanks, the more I thought about it after I posted this, the more I thought 'what the he!! am I talking about??' I've done what you suggested and I've actually taken it one step farther and mapped a lettered drive to the folder from both accounts to make it a little more accessible.

Thank you for reinforcing th fact that common sense should be consulted before posting here.

The problem is if your hard drive fails... and on laptops I've seen about a 8:1 ratio of laptop disks failing vs normal disks. This wouldnt be so bad if I had more than 9 laptops in my organization. 9 laptops, 100 desktops. The laptops fail left and right, the desktops hardly do.

If you want that stuff backed up (do it do it do it do it) then make sure you set offline folders or copy back and forth... Dont forget, sooner or later your laptop hard drive will probably fail so be prepared.
