Im curious about the remote access feture I set it up today based off of a post I made earlier, after I entered the extension and put in my barrier code I was then in my other sites switch I then entered a extension at that site, im not sure if I got this right but i thought I could even take over a station at that other site, is that not possible because when I dialed the extension I wanted to take over it started ringing and then the voicemail picked up. Maybe I just got it wrong on how this feature is to be used can someone specify what this is actually good for? I even tried making a call out of my site B switch and it wouldnt let me do that, how much control does this feature really give you?

The remote access basically allows you to emulate a station. So when you dial in, hit the barrier code, you get a dial tone and it's as if you were sitting at the remote access ext and go off hook. You can then dial calls out through your PBX based off the COR/COS restrictions, etc. When you go to dial another extension, it actually calls that extension, as you found, it doesn't take it over.

IP Softphone will allow you to "take over" a set. What is software level and do you have a CLAN board? I beleve that Version 11 gives you IP softphone for 5. Check to see if you have IPSoftphone and CLAN. The sys parameters customer options will look something like this
Maximum Concurrently Registered IP Stations: 5 0

To check CLAN type list cong all and look for something like this
01C01 CONTROL-LAN TN799B 000001

Hope this helps

The remote access is a nice feature. I use it to call forward my extension while I am out and about. I also use it in some cases to call forward other phones that are in trouble to another number until I can come in and resolve the problems. A lot of times I am not in my office and need to make a long distance call, I use this feature from a phone that is restricted from placing those calls. A lot you can do with it, but again this is a security issue and place for toll fraud. Change your barrier code regularly and make them the maximum length.

I have another question if Im having problems with stations at another site having problems dialing certain long distance numbers can I use remote access to dial a long distance number to see if the changes I made in that switch actually worked, without having to call over there and ask them to try it now. Also someone mentioned they use this for when there out to put there phone on call forward, if you cant actually take over a station then how do you tell it that you want your extension call forwarded, im confused.

One thing I left out on what I just posted since I think I cant edit my post is this can you not use this to take some ones extension off of send calls, If someone calls and says that there phone just goes to voice mail can I not use remote access to take ther phone off of send calls?

I think what you are missing, is that you are using feature access codes when you are using this feature. For remotely call farwarding my phone, I put in the call forward access codes, my number, and the number that I want my phone call forwarded to. Everthing has to be in place,or it wont work. I have my remote access is setup with a high enough cor/cos that I can do this. I also have my phone set with the same type permissions that allow call forward off net. To make long distance calls using it it has to have a high enough COR that allows those type calls. You can not take off send all calls because you have to use the system wide deactivation code. You can put in the code, but not the extension number so it doesn't work. Hope this helps.

Yes you can take someone off send all calls. You just have to make sure you have console permissions in your cos.

Then you enter the FAC for Remote Send All Calls De- Activation The Fac for Remote Sac is Different from the Sac feature.

After looking at the feature access codes, I see you are right g3rguy. I have never seen this one before, but that is why I am on this site is to help and to learn. Another nice feature to use. Is this something that has been added in the newer releases?

Been around since release 8.

I guess I have to set it up now. Thanks.

I asn't aware that an extension, even if it has console permissions can cancel send calls for another extension. What version G3R does this work on ?

As g3rguy mentioned it has been around since about V8. I did put it in place and it is a time saver to say the least. I am running V11 and for me it is on the 3rd page of the feature access codes form. Assign a actiation deactivation code and you can use this with console permissions.

That's weird. My version is V7 and it is on page 3 but g3rguy is correct because when I tried to assign a FAC it then says "G3 version must be V8 or later" Wow, I knew I should of had a V8.
