using rebuildm.exe to rebuld master (lost RAID)

I had to rebuild a disk array on which my master DB files were. I have backup of the master DB but service fails to start. initial research seems to indicate I need to run rebuildm.exe to recreate a "shell" master then I should be able to start service, restore my master and other DBs.

I don't understand what it means by "Source Directory containing Data Files".

can anyone shed any light on this?

update:

I figured out that I needed to put the SQL install CD in the server and point that field to <CD>:\x86\DATA.

it says it's copying some files, says it's updating the system then fails with an error code of &quot;-1&quot;.

anyone have experience with this?
