Hello-
currently I have just one domain, but will soon host another for my CEO. Is it possible to have an OWA url that is specific to his domain, or will he have to use the current one and then use his own credentials?

ex:

thanks.

Hi there,

Assuming you mean new "email" domain, not AD domain - Yes. One approach is to setup a second "A" record using "mail.newdomain.com" and point it to the same IP address as "mail.originaldomain.com".

Then you must setup AD and Exchange (not to mention your SPAM and A/V solutions) to accept email from "@newdomain.com" How you go about configuring this depends upon the user and administrative experience you want to create. For example, will all/some current users need access to @newdomain.com using their originaldomain logon accounts? Or, will @new... & @original... require separate mailboxes, domain logons, etc..

First, fully define how the two domains need to be accessed and administered before deciding how to configure.

thanks malcolm-
no users will need to use the new domain mail. the ceo just uses webmail from register.com, and i want to house it for him. he'll still use webmail only. so i'd like for him to use the mail.newdomain.com url format. he logs on to the domain with his main domain account and credentials but doesn't use our mail.

Hi WGBTR,

I'm not sure I have the current understanding; the ceo currently uses webmail interface at register.com to retrieve and send email. The desired process is to have the ceo use owa instead of register.com address. This will provide local archive and administrative control of the ceo's email.

First: setup the local resources and then use telnet to verify that messages are being delivered to the "ceo@newdomain.com" exchange mailbox.

Second: have the administrator of "newdomain.com" update the DNS Zone records to replace the existing "newdomain.com" MX records with an MX record pointing to "mail.originaldomain.com". [Add "A" record named "mail.newdomain.com for OWA] -- This is not necessary if ceo will continue to use "ceo@originaldomain.com" network logon.

To complete "First":
-Update SMTP Gateway, A/V & SPAM services to accept email from newdomain.com.
-Configure Exchange to accept messages for “newdomain.com”. Review these articles for further guidance.
