Using MP3 player as an MOH player?

Sure you can. Plug the output of the MP3 to an analog port or an aux board.

I've used MP3 players as MOH and also used an MP3-compatible walkman-type player with and MP3 CD inside. I used to make custom MOH CDs for customers and they liked the flexibility it afforded.

DJPlazma - What brand/model of MP3 players have you tried using? Does it require special connectors to get it to work? Currently we are still using a CD player like a walkman-type player for our MOH. The problem with it is that it doesn't last that long compared to durability of MP3 players and besides it won't have any chance of skipping.

I've used the SONY S2 MP3 Sports Walkman (Model D-NE510) (can be purchased for less than $50 normally) in a number of installations and haven't had a problem. No special hookups required, aside from bastardizing a headset (twist right and left together, creating an audio side and a ground side) and punching down to an analog port (for instance). Use An External Power Supply, but have batteries installed as a backup. To avoid skipping mount it flat on a shelf or on top of the switch...use some durable double-sided foam tape. Don't just set it on anything because it's more susceptible to skipping.

I paid $150 from Graybar.

You can use almost any audio device for MOH, from record player to any brand MP3 . Just wire audio out to your aux board or analog port.

I just got a cheap headset, cut the wire off of it and punched it down the Aux board and ran it over to a server and plugged it in to the speaker jack/card, fired up Media player and looped a song. I wanna so sort of like a current events thing for the callers to listen to.

you can use almost any device that is generating some kind of audio output. it can be a tape player, cd player, radio unit, mp3 player, whatever. that's because the system is getting the plain mono audio signal out of the source, no signaling, no nothing.
from my experience, it's best to use flash mp3 player. more robust because it lacks any moving parts.

Hi long time ago I bought a telephone transmit patch from dynametric. Basically (before we could upload announcements with VAL) I used to plug my pc to a digital phone, play the wav file and save the announcement. Now we don't use this anymore (thanks to VAL) but playing with the device I was playing to connect it to an analogue line and connect one of the jacks to my ipod. Then normal on hold music stuff configuration and when I put a call on hold I hear my ipod - this was just for testing we don't use it but I guess you can sure plug it to any pc playing an mp3 on winamp.

The patch box we use is labeled ad TMP-636 and a quick look in the company website show something similar.

any device you can plug earphones into and listen will work. flash MP3 is good as said before due to no moving parts as long as it will take a mains power feed.

If it's one that will take a media card of some sort then you can swap music / announcements by changing out the media card. v quick and useful for major outages or new products & services
