Using DHCP Server on IP Telephones

I need to know the way to set up my DHCP server to give addresses to the IP Phones. I have 4606 IP phones.

See the IP phone Administrators guide - this explains the setting up of scope option 176 to give IP addressing info to the IP Phones.

We use it most sites, no probs, although you may need to turn IP Address conflict checking (2 attempts) on on the server, as the IP phones don't do this themselves (unlike XP,2003 etc systems). Can occasionally result in DHCP conflicts when IT muck around with the server.

I saw that, but I did not know what to do with the TFTP server that it talked about. Is this something that needs installed on the DHCP server or a different server or can the IP Office do it.

The IP Office Manager program can act as a TFTP server, but is limited to 5 connections. Manager needs to be running to send new instructions to your IP phones.

Avaya has a TFTP server that can be loaded on any machine (specify the machine's address in the IPO System/System settings).

Despite these options, I believe that consensus is to use a 3rd party TFTP server. I've had success with a TFTP server made by klever, known as Pumpkin:

I like this one because in addition to being placed in your start menu, it can also be run in the system tray which makes it more difficult for someone to accidentally close the program.
