using database mail

I'm trying to send email to an operator called SQL-admin when a backup is done (if it fails or is successful).

I get the backup to run normally by creating it through Maintenance Plans. However sending email to an operator does not work.

Does anyone know any guides/resources where using database mail is described.

What is the SQL Server version and Service pack that you are using?
do u have outlook client installed on that server??
