Using Data from subreports in Formulas

Is it possible to use data from a subreport in a formula in the Main Report?

Yes, with a shared variable. However... caveat here... the subreport must appear physically within the report BEFORE you use the shared variable in the main report.

You can use the data from the sub-report as Lisa mentioned however the subreport must be executed (built) but can be supressed and not displayed.

Is the shared variable the same as the field that links the sub to the main?

No, check out the help sections on shared variable. They should give you a start on what all you need to do.
