can u use crystal reports to report on data in an excel spreadsheet?

Yes.
Are you having difficulty doing that?
Which version of CR?

In the Standard Report Expert choose Database then ODBC and then Excel files.

i have tried your solution but i am getting an error message - file is not a valid compound file - ??

I have no idea what that message means.
Are you sure you have a clean table-like structure in your spreadsheet, with unique column headings?

yep, but i will try a few other tables to see if things change - thanks

Thank lupins46, your suggestion worked fine, i was using excel files that had some blank rows and some heading-less calculations. everything is fine now. thanks again
