Using Barcode Scanner

Hi

I want to use a barcode scanner to read barcodes directly into a form field, then move to the next field. The scanner reads the barcode, but will not move to the next field, despite trying code in all the events to move to a new record or named field. Hitting the return key solves the problem, but is the away so the when the trigger is released I get the same result. The scanner is a serial Welch Allyn "Scanteam 3400"

Can anyone please help

I have tried to trigger the code on most of the propertis! If I try on the after update property in fills one character in each field on each new record!

Any ideas?

I think it depends on the bar code reader. Some of them automatically "press enter" when the scan is finished, some of them don't. It may also have to do with the * * surrounding the text, some need asteriks on both sides of the actual text in order to know when they've finished scanning.

I don't think it needs * * surrounding the text,I tried this and it still the same. It must be lacking in the automatic "press enter", but surly the trigger must sent some signal to the serial port?, maybe not!

I don't know much about the scanners, but with special functions for printers you sometimes have to use a special font. Maybe you need to look in your scanner documentation. They probably have a solution for you.

Do you have the manual for this scanner? You should be able to program the scanner to send a carriage return after the bar code data. How is the scanner connected?
