I'm looking into using Backup Exec to backup DB2 on Windows. There's no specific agent for DB2 in Backup Exec, so I've been adviced to use the open file option. However, I'm a bit sceptical using open file option to do hot backups of DB2, since I assume it's pretty much like most other databases with device files and transaction logs that are open and locked for a reason. Even if I could force the issue so to speak I must be sure that I can restore the DB2 database in case of a failure.
Any comments using Open file option to protect DB2?

If you want to backup db2 you should use Net Backup as it has a dedicated agent for db2.

NetBackup is not an option. Backup Exec is what I have, and I really need confirmation whether it is feasible to use Open file option to backup DB2. Personally, I don't think it would work but I need a bit more to go on.

Why don't u try it and find out for yourself.

I could probably count on 1 hand the amount of people wanting to backup DB2 database with Backup Exec.

Does the database have it's own inbuilt backup program, which allows you to dump the db's to disk? If it does, why don't you use this and then use BE to backup the files.
