I have around 2,000 style nubmers, with information of their content and description created in a table that is used as a master list.

Currently when I update the inventory I create a new table, and type in the newest style numbers I then manually look at my master list and type in the content and description, one by one. Sounds silly, right? Here's the catch.

The master list only has a four digit stlye number, such as 1234. While the style number that I input when updating the inventory is longer. To show color I add a backslash and a number from 0-9 to the style number, such as 1234/0.

So how can I make the despcription and content columbs automatically update themselves through the master list based on the first four digits of the style number I just put in.

Any help will save me hours...
Thanks

Joshua Fink
MAGNA FABRICS
hihofink@hotbot.com

Why not change your inventory table so that the style number is made up of two columns: the four digit style number that matches the master table and another column that shows the color. Your key in the inventory table can be a combination of the two columns. You can make it print on any reports the same way it prints now simply by printing [Col 1] & "/" & [Col 2]. This way you can join your inventory table to your master table on the four digit style number and automatically update the relevant fields in your inventory table using an update query.

Thanks... Your advise was very helpful

-Josh
