Users remote login

Hello everyone...

Need help in remote login. This is my setup:

Have a network with Windows 2003 and 30 clients. Dynamic IP addressing, router with a static IP address.

Whats the best way I can have remote users log in? I dont mind if a user has an account on the domain and can just login remotely and do work normally on the domain as he/she would do while in the office- is this possible? Please guide.

Erm, Set up a VPN?

Setup the RRAS (VPN) on your server.

Give people dialin permissions

Setup the connections on there PC / Laptop.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already setup VPN on the server. My router has a static IP address, should I give users that IP address when they are connecting?

Do the remote users need a router with VPN capability or would any router do for the users?

Yes, you will need to tell your users the static IP address and get them to log in using there Windows accounts.

Depending on the encryption / tunneling that you are using depends on whether your router will support it. But most likely you will be using PPTP so as long as the router was made in the last thousand years then it will be compatable!

Ok here is what I have understood upto now:

1. Setup RRAS on the server as a router
2. Then allow users to login

This requires the server to have two Network adapters, at the moment my Static IP is given to the router. If I allocate the static IP to one of the network adapters of the server then does the router get an internal ip address?
