We are in the process of applying quotas to users' home directories. I was hoping to get a feel for what some of you have set as limits on home shares.
One number that we are using (we pulled this out of the air) is 200 MB. Is this too much in your experience. Some of our users are already above this limit and we will be forcing them to clean up. But we will allow some users to exceed this limit based on the nature of their jobs.
Thanks for the input.

I have started at 100Mb and this limit is for most users. I have informed our staff that there are upper bands of 250Mb and 500Mb for those who can make a business case for the increased storage. Having set limits like this helps to get across the need for housekeeping.
The main needs for storage are email .PST files.

We also set ours to 100 MB. With 70+ users, that gives almost 7 GB to this kind of storage. We encourage users to use the home directories for storage of non-project specific data, but if they start accumulating more than 100MB, we work with them to fit the information into our corporate structure

I agree, start low. its much easier to add more later, than to take it away. Even if you have the room for 200, start at 100, you can be the good guy when someone asks for more. ;)
