I have a database with user level security.
When I move the file from the location where I created the security file I can open the database with out using the shortcut made by the security wizard. Also it does not ask me for a password and everything is unlocked.
What do you thing is happening?

From what you posted, I think that you either modified the existing System.mdw security file, rather than creating an entirely new one, OR you created a new file called System.mdw and overwrote the system file. So when you move the database to a new PC, it opens using the local System.mdw file, which does not have the security permissions that you defined.

I suggest that you review the requirements for setting up Security. There are a number of good FAQs on the topic on this site. I suggest these three as a minimum.
FAQ181-1131
FAQ181-1164
FAQ181-3950

Then, review the steps that you went through to set up your security, compared to these FAQs.

Setting Security can be very confusing when you first attempt it, but it is worth perservering. Read, read and read again. Then test it on a backup of your application. When your sure it's working the way you require, then apply it to your production application.

I ran the securty setup wizard and it worked again.
I am asking because I do not know why this happened in the first time.

I will explain it again differently and see if this makes more sense.

1. I created a DB
2. wrapped it in securty (security.mdw)
3. was using the sortcut to open the DB
4. if I tryied opening the DB by not using the shortcut it told me I did not have permissions. (exaactly as it should)
5. Then on day I moved the DB to another location alone with the security.mdw
6. I then changed the shortcut to match the new fold
7. then opened it with the shortcut and it worked fine
8. then tried just opening the actual DB file and instead of giving me the permissions error it opened
9. I then had full privlages to the DB just as if you had no securty on the DB
10. I ran the security wizard and it went back to not allowing me into the DB except through the shortcut.
11. problems solved but I wonder what happened in the first place to cause the loss of the security to the file.

I have been using Access security for 3 years now and have never run into this before.
