I have a Dell PC at work that multiple people need to use. We only want one of these guys to have internet access and want the rest of the users to NOT have internet access. The PC is a windows 2000 workstation and the user accounts are "user" . We do want all of our users to be able to reach our internal e-mail server.
I was hoping that i could plug in the IP and gateway info for one user and leave it blank for the next but I.E. seems to want to use the same network settings for all users.
So i removed the proxy and port settings from I.E., connections, LAN settings. This did the trick but when i tested it out, our proxy server will display a page that says that "your proxy settings are missing and actually give out the real values.
The problem is that even with the standard user account, anyone can go into I.E. and re-plug in the info, especially when my proxy server is give the needed info away!!!! Our proxy server is a linux box and i know nothing about that language. Soooo
Does anyone know how to control Internet access by user account on a windows 2000 pc set up in a large workgroup. (Not a domain)?
I can remove the Internet Explorer from the desktop .....but would rather restrict them from being able to change values or to restrict them from accessing property sheets in I.E. 6.0
Thanks
Gary
