Hi,

I have been looking for a while at applications such as Norton Antivirus, MS Money and Quick Books, and have noticed that they seem to have this 'web like' interface to them.

Can anyone tell me if these are special controls they are using or are they the regular controls tweaked to look like web controls or are they perhaps an actual HTML interface.

I really like the look and would like to know more about this.

Thank you in advance for any knowledge you may have in this area.

Hi,

I must admit I haven't used any of those applications but if you add the "Microsoft Internet Controls" to your VB toolbox you can place an Internet Explorer window within VB and then use it to display HTML-based information, such as HTML emails as a typical example.

Using an IE window does have restrictions on what you can do because as you say, it's all web-based, but it also gives you vastly more flexibility over the layout and appearance of your app.

I use IE windows extensively in my programs but mainly for displaying information in a colourful and formatted way, such as reports, tables and interactive help.

Hope this helps.
