Is it possible to create one of my own user groups in XP Pro. Microsoft has some default groups i.e. Administrators, Power Users etc. and they all have their own rights and restrictions. Can I create my own group independent of these and set my own restrictions. I DO NOT simply want to make my new group to be a member of one of these original groups!

Cheers

Yes you can. Eg, run lusrmgr.msc, right click on Groups, and select New Group. You'll need to use Local Group policy editor (run gpedit.msc) to set rights and restrictions, I think.

When I create the new group and then use gpedit.msc, how do I assosiate the new restrictions with that new group only? It seems that gpedit.msc will affect every user on that local system regardless of group. I am not sure that groups can be modified by gpedit, just the entire local system. I hope I am wrong!

If you look under Computer Configuration|Windows Settings|Security Settings|Local Policies|User Rights Assignment, there are a number of settings you can add/remove groups to/from.
